CEU Course Description

Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in the state of Alabama must adhere to guidance from the Alabama Board of Physical Therapy and the American Physical Therapy Association to ensure compliance with licensing, continuing education, ethical standards, and regulations that govern the profession. This course will elaborate on how to deliver outstanding, ethical physical therapy care, review the Alabama Physical Therapy Practice Act, discuss the four sources of biomedical ethical obligations in Alabama, and how to represent the profession with integrity and compassion. It will also explore case scenarios of ethical challenges and guide therapists on utilizing the Code of Ethics and core values to navigate ethical situations.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Recall ethical principles that apply to the physical therapy profession both nationally and within the state of Alabama. 
  2. Recognize the four sources of biomedical ethical obligations for the state of Alabama and the concept of patient-informed consent and its expectations. 
  3. Identify elements of the Alabama Physical Therapy Practice Act Code of Alabama, including disciplinary actions.
