CEU Course Description

This course provides the necessary training for physical therapists and physical therapy assistants to apply foundational basic life support skills to those in emergency situations. This course is intended to review updated recommendations for adults, children, infants, and special populations according to the latest expert guidelines and research. Additionally, this course will teach you to promptly recognize impending signs of emergencies that require high quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills. In doing so, you will learn ways in which to recognize signs of cardiac arrest, activate the emergency response system, and react appropriately with confidence. Lastly, this course will review skills required to provide choking relief and care during opioid-associated emergencies and opioid overdoses.

Please note: This course comprehensively covers concepts and skills pertaining to CPR but does not address protocols that are specific to each state. For more information on state-regulated protocols, refer to your local health authority or regulatory body in your state. As such, this course fulfills the academic requirements of a blended learning module for BLS certification. In addition to successful completion of this course, participants will need to complete a hands-on skills demonstration with a certified instructor in order to achieve full BLS certification. Please confirm that this course meets the necessary requirements of your state prior to enrolling.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Recognize the appropriate steps in initiating basic life support and CPR for individuals who are unresponsive, in cardiac arrest, have an obstructed airway, or are experiencing an opioid-associated emergency.
