CEU Course Description

This course provides a focused, evidence-informed overview of elbow pain and dysfunction for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and occupational therapists. Participants will review relevant elbow anatomy and biomechanics, emphasizing the elbow as a three-joint complex and the relationship between structure, function, and load tolerance. Common causes of elbow pain, including local and contributing factors remote from the elbow, are explored alongside the role of clinical history, clinical reasoning, and physical examination in differential diagnosis. This course reviews common elbow dysfunctions, key clinical tests, and typical sports-related injuries. Emphasis is placed on developing individualized, multimodal management plans, including exercise therapy, pain management, and sport-specific rehabilitation strategies, with practical considerations for treatment progression and return-to-play decision making.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Review elbow anatomy and biomechanics, including the functional relationships among the humeroulnar, humeroradial, and proximal radioulnar joints
  2. Define common causes of elbow pain and dysfunction, including both local impairments and contributing factors remote from the elbow
  3. Recall key elements of clinical history taking, physical examination, and clinical tests used to differentiate common elbow conditions
  4. Recognize appropriate multimodal management strategies, including exercise therapy, pain management, and return-to-activity considerations, based on individual patient presentation
