CEU Course Description
This comprehensive course is designed for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and occupational therapy professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the sensory processing challenges often associated with it. Participants will explore the foundations and principles of sensory integration therapy and its critical role in improving movement, coordination, self-regulation, and quality of life for individuals with ASD. The course will examine the function of various sensory systems, including vestibular, proprioceptive, tactile, auditory, and visual, and how dysfunction in these areas can affect daily living skills. Through evidence-based content, attendees will learn to differentiate between sensory-seeking and sensory-avoidant behaviors, identify red flags, utilize standardized assessments, and conduct meaningful clinical observations in collaboration with caregivers. Practical intervention strategies will be covered, including sensory-based activities tailored to different settings (clinic, school, home), with a focus on enhancing motor function and self-regulation. Participants will leave equipped with tools to adapt interventions to individual client needs, promote functional outcomes, and engage in ongoing professional development in the evolving field of sensory integration.
