CEU Course Description

The aging process presents many new challenges to the senior adult, including increased weakness, confusion, gait difficulty, and balance issues. In addition to physical and mental decline, seniors face issues with new technology, the use of assistive devices, side effects that are worsened by polypharmacy, and difficulty grasping the prescribed plan of care. This course will discuss the aging process and its effects on the body and mind, helpful exercises for the geriatric patient, common gait assistive devices, emerging technology, and describe how to create an effective plan of care and informative daily progress notes.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Describe the effects of aging on patients and the benefits of exercise program implementation.
  2. Discuss common elderly issues such as assistive devices, technology, caregiver interactions and inclusion, and the dangers of polypharmacy.
  3. Review tools to create an effective plan of care for seniors and write an informative progress note.
