CEU Course Description

ACL injury is one of the most frequent and costly injuries in sports, and a major risk factor for early knee osteoarthritis.  The goals of this CEU course are to summarize current information on the mechanism of ACL injury, including how risk factors are associated with the injury mechanism, and determine whether there is a gender difference in the mechanism of ACL injury. This course is based on an article by the International Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Explain what may increase the anterior shear of the tibia at landing.
  2. Investigate the movement most likely to result in ACL injury to athletes of both genders.
  3. Examine a gender difference reported in high school athletes in the landing technique prior to training.
  4. Describe the most likely cause of compression that occurs during cutting and landing activities.
