Course Description

CEU Course Description

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has been associated with various maternal and perinatal adverse outcomes.  This CEU course provides a recent update and discusses the current controversies on GDM; highlights the diagnostic and management options for GDM in light of recent advances in care; investigates if exercise improves postprandial glycemic control in women diagnosed with GDM; and examines whether exercise intervention is a suitable non-invasive therapeutic option that can be readily applied to pregnant women with GDM to control gestational weight gain and combat potential GDM-related adverse outcomes.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Enumerate the factors that put patients at high risk for GDM.
  2. Explain the first line of management for women with gestational diabetes mellitus.
  3. Investigate what has been shown to have low sensitivity as a screening test for GDM.
  4. Compare and contrast the benefits of universal screening compared to selective screening.
  5. Identify which muscle activation improves glucose uptake.
